Date: 1960s
Historical Context: Shown here are Japanese truck farmers harvesting the strawberry crop. Particularly in the south Sacramento area, truck farms were the main activity of Japanese agriculturists. First migrating to California in the 1880s, Japanese began to purchase and work their own land in the Sacramento area about 1900. They prospered until early 1942, when the relocation deprived Japanese of their rights and property until after World War II.
